National forest and wandering waterways come together in Vermont's Green Mountains, a village-dotted region of note for the skiing, paddling, hiking and fly fishing on offer.
Calvin Coolidge was the only president born on the 4th of July. The modest house where he grew up is across the road from his birthplace and is the home where he returned every year. History singled out this homestead on August 3, 1923 when, by the light of a kerosene lamp, Vice-President Coolidge was sworn in by his father as 30th President of the United States. The homestead and the village of Plymouth Notch remains exactly as it was on that historic night.
