Ski resorts set the scene for the mountains around the town of Killington in winter, though venture to these parts outside of peak season and find also pleasant hiking trails, well-groomed golf greens and a handful of rural attractions.
Badlands Golf Club has 27 holes of target, desert-style golf at it's finest designed by Johnny Miller and Chi Chi Rodriguez. The course meanders through canyons, arroyos, and washes and places a premium on shot accuracy. An experience like no other, locals voted the Badlands best course in Las Vegas. The Red Rock mountains in the background create a beautiful setting. 15-20 minutes from the Las Vegas strip. Soft spikes are required.
The original 18 holes opened in 1995 (another nine was added later) and the enthusiastic response to its dazzling layout is credited with sparking much of the ensuing development. Former PGA Tour superstar-turned-television analyst Johnny Miller embraced the craggy terrain to create a course a daredevil could love.
The Badlands' personality emerges in earnest at No. 6, with a steep ravine lining the left side. No. 7 is a short par 4 that doglegs right into a hidden and narrow green. The back nine winds closer to the scenic Red Rock Mountains and culminates with two holes played up a chute between the hills.
